Xiaomi’s gaming sub-brand has launched its first-ever gaming smartphone—Black Shark in China on Friday.Alongside, the company also launched the ‘Controller Dock’ (i.e, detachable gamepad) for offering true gaming experience.

Black Shark Gaming Smartphone

BlackShark comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 64-bit processor coupled with Adreno 630 GPU.The phone features a liquid cooling system to keep phone cool while gaming.It claims to reduce the CPU core temperature straight down to 8°C.

It comes in two variants – 6GB RAM with 64GB (UFS 2.1) internal storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB (UFS 2.1) internal storage variants.The phone has unique X-Style antenna design to eliminate signal issues when holding the smartphone in vertically or horizontally.Additionally, there is a dedicated one-touch Shark Key on the left for an immersive gaming experience.

Coming to camera options, it sports a 20 MP + 12 MP Dual rear camera setup at the back with dual-tone LED flash whereas, 20MP front-facing camera with F/2.2 Aperture for selfies.It can even record 4K videos.The phone has a dedicated image processing chip from Pixelworks offering intelligent motion compensation technology, image enhancement, dark scene detail processing, for smooth video quality when gaming.

It runs on Android 8.1(oreo).There is a 4,000mAh non-removable battery to power the phone which also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.The phone measures 161.6 x 75.4 x 9.25mm and it weighs 190 grams.

Controller Dock (Model H66)

The Controller Dock i.e, detachable gamepad easily attaches to the side of the phone. It uses Bluetooth V4.0 to connect and is compatible with devices running on Android 4.4 OS or higher. It has 150 mAh battery that offers about 30 hours of usage.

Pricing and Availability

The Black Shark comes in Polar Night Black and Sky Gray colors,

  • The 6GB RAM with 64GB storage variant is priced at 2999 yuan (US$ 477 / Rs. 31,160 approx.) and
  • The 8GB RAM with 128GB storage variant is priced at 3499 yuan (US$ 557 / Rs. 36,375 approx.).

The Gamepad costs 179 yuan (US$ 29 / Rs. 1,860 approx.). All these will be available for order from today and goes on sale from April 20th in China.
